The tenth war patrol of the USS Pogy (SS-266), captained by Lieutenant Commander John M. Bowers, was conducted in the Sea of Japan off the northwest coast of Honshu and off the west coast of Hokkaido. The Pogy made five torpedo attacks during this patrol. In two of these attacks, the Pogy reported sinking one large freighter and a medium tanker. In another attack, she also reported damaging a large tanker. The crew was commended for using the latest mine detection sonar to successfully pass through thick enemy mine fields to penetrate the supposedly inviolable waters of the Sea of Japan.
