The eighth war patrol of the USS Bonefish (SS-223), under the command of Commander Lawrence L. Edge, began on May 28, 1945. Her assigned patrol area was in the southeast section of the Sea of Japan, along the western coast of Honshu. She and her gallant crew would never return. She became the fifty-first submarine lost during the war. The fifty-second and last submarine to be lost would be the Bullhead, nine days before the end of the war.
