This free software emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with the sound, graphics, and mouse support necessary for running many old DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux and FreeBSD. However, it is not restricted to running only games. In theory, any DOS application should run in DOSBox, but the emphasis has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly. Silent Hunter is among the many games supported by DOSBox. Visit the DOSBox Web site for more information. Running Silent Hunter under a Separate DOS or Win 98 Partition So you finally got that new Dell Dimension loaded with all the latest bells and whistles, and Windows XP. But it won't let you run your favorite old games, like Silent Hunter. You aren't enough of a geek to attempt to follow Don Wells's procedures or to download, install and configure DOSBox. Does this profile fit your situation? If so, you may wish to consider installing a separate DOS or Windows 98 partition on that new mega-gigabyte hard drive. Then you can use the DOS/Win 98 partition to run Silent Hunter, and you'll still have the Windows XP partition for all the newer stuff. Sound good?
